1. To improve administrative, scientific and logistic support to the researchers in the
KSU Medical City and the Faculty of Medicine and those interested in experimental
animal research.
2. To improve animal housing space for a consolidated animal care program for
laboratory animals within the KSU Medical City.
3. To enrich the facility equipped with tools, materials and equipment to help achieve
the success of the training programs and workshops.
4. To promote the culture of scientific animal research locally.

To support all staff, research teams and students who are interested in the field of

Animal Experimental Surgery and Research and to facilitate teaching and training
activities to the medical community and support high-quality researches.

Our ambition to be the best in the field of research by the continual upgrading with continuous development  to provide a proper  environment for the researcher by providing all of the needed factors for the success of scientific research or workshops.

The Experimental Surgery and Animal (ES&A) Laboratory was
established in 1987 at the College of Medicine, King Saud University
in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to provide experimental animals and logistics
support for the researchers of the institution.
In 2015, a collaborative initiative was launched with the Prince Naif
bin AbdulAziz Health Research Center for the laboratory to be one
of the core research facilities dedicated to surgical training & animal
experimental research, laboratory animal care and housing, veterinary
support and research personnel training for the King Saud University
Medical City.

لقد دأب الإنسان ومنذ القدم في البحث عن مصادر من شأنها تحل أو تحد من المشاكل الصحية التي يعاني منها فبحث في الطبيعة واستطاع استخلاص الأدوية من نباتات الأرض، إلا أن ثمة أمراض وإصابات لم يجد لها حلاً فهداه الله في البحث في نفسه بقول سبحانه ( وفي أنفسكم أفلا تبصرون ).

بحث الإنسان عن نفسه ووجد أنه بدأ من خلية واحدة تمثل الجذع أو الأصل الذي نبت منه وسماها الخلية الجذعية ثم توالت انقسامات الخلية لتعطى أخرى حتى تكّون باقي الجسم، كما شاهد أن بعض هذه الخلايا تبقى حتى بعد الولادة فشرع في البحث عن إمكانية استخدام هذه الخلايا في حل المشكلات المستعصية كالإمراض المزمنة.

وبعد البحث والغوص في غمار هذه الخلايا وجد أنها ذات قدرات متفاوتة وتختلف باختلاف عمر الإنسان فمنها ما هو كامل القدرة لإنتاج الكائن الحي بكاملة ومنها ما هو وافر القدرة وتقل مستوى القدرة إلى أن تصبح وحيدة القدرة لذا توالت البحوث وأنتشر الاهتمام بالخلايا الجذعية.

ولأهمية أبحاث الخلايا الجذعية تواكب الباحثون وعلى رأسهم سعادة الدكتورعبدالله بن محمد الدهمش في قسم التشريح كلية الطب جامعة الملك سعود مع الموضوع ونجحوا بفضل من الله ودعم مشكور من مدينة الملك عبدالعزيز للعلوم والتقنية بإنشاء أول وحدة على مستوى الشرق الأوسط تعني بأبحاث الخلايا الجذعية، وخلال فترة وجيزة استطاعوا تأسيس وحدة متكاملة تتكون من فريق متجانس ومعدات ومعامل أساسية، كما تمكنوا من إحراز نتائج قياسية إذا ما قيست بالعمر الزمني والإمكانيات المتاحة.
